Position Summary

UNM’s Physical Plant Department (PPD) is responsible for the care and the upkeep of the physical campus
environment. In addition, PPD manages the operations and maintenance of facilities, including buildings, grounds, landscaping, vehicles, and utilities; with an approximate team of 380 employees for more than 12 million square feet of interior space and 680 acres of land. 

PPD seeks a dynamic and results-oriented professional with a strong environmental background to become a valuable member of our team as a Manager, Environmental Services. This position is responsible for the general direction of Environmental Services and will oversee the planning, development, coordination, implementation and management of the following divisions: Grounds & Landscaping, Special Activities, Automotive Services, Custodial Services (HSC & Main), Sign Shop, and the integrated pest management functions for the physical facilities including the vehicle fleet of the University. All while ensuring the cost effective use of resources needed to maintaining an attractive and safe campus environment.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 10 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

*Bachelor’s degree directly associated to the duties and responsibilities specified.

*Demonstrated experience in communication skills both orally and written with ability to maintain transparency. Appropriately communicate organization information through department meetings, one-on-one meetings, and appropriate email, and regular interpersonal communication.

*Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop staff, including development of career planning and opportunities.

*Proven ability to lead employees to meet the organization's expectations for productivity, quality, and goal accomplishment.

*Demonstrated experience with procurement statutes for the State of New Mexico.

*Proven skills in reading landscape plans and specifications.
