Position Summary

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of New Mexico (UNM) Health Sciences Center is expanding and seeks an outstanding vitreoretinal surgeon to join our rapidly growing group. This positions expertise will significantly contribute to the preservation and restoration of vision in our patients.

Applicants must have completed an accredited vitreoretinal surgery fellowship. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a busy clinical practice at the UNM Hospital Eye Clinic, and will share responsibility with existing faculty for call and medical student and resident education. Candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to clinical care, teaching, and research in an academic setting. As part of the UNM Health System, the Eye Clinic provides a rewarding mix of tertiary and indigent care.

The Sandia Mountain wilderness is 20 minutes from UNM. There is a lively arts scene, and we are close to the galleries of Santa Fe and Madrid, NM. There are two national laboratories nearby: Sandia and Los Alamos.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications for position:

  • Completion of an Ophthalmology Residency Program
  • Completion of Vitreo-retinal Fellowship
  • Board certified/eligible in Ophthalmology
  • Eligible for licensure in New Mexico
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications for position:

  • Experience in clinical education
  • Experience in clinical research
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
