Working Title Teacher,Pre-College Programs Upward Bound Summer

Position Summary

The UNM-Valencia Campus Upward Bound Program is taking applications for Teacher, Pre-College Programs. This is a grant-funded on-call position with current funding available through 08/31/2024. This position oversees certain day-to-day aspects of the Upward Bound Program including but not limited to tutoring, leading workshops, teaching, and executing college preparation/academic lessons for high school students.

This person will assist with tutoring and instructing during the summer session. This position provide support either in math, science, language art, or in any other discipline at any of the three-target area high school (Valencia, Belen, Los Lunas High Schools) including the UNM-Valencia Campus. Practice various pedological practices to enhance student academic progress as well as gain the skills necessary to transition from high school to higher education. Support and engage students in college preparatory topics. Document student progress, attendance, and any other type of student tracking task. 

Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural Valencia County, the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year branch campus of the University of New Mexico which functions as a community college in the region and is designated a Hispanic Serving Institution.  With an emphasis on teaching excellence, Valencia Campus offers academic transfer programs, technical vocational programs, Adult Basic Education, and Dual Credit High School/College courses to Valencia and Socorro Counties.  The faculty and staff serve a student body of approximately 1,900 students per semester. Conditions of Employment

  • Elementary or secondary level teaching certification may be a requirement for specified positions in this classification.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Two or more years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Experience working with at-risk and first-generation college students
  • Curriculum planning and implementation of a program including community outreach
  • Ability to tutor in Math including Algebra and Geometry
