Position Summary | The
Department of Pediatrics at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center
is seeking an experienced clinician in Critical Care at
the Associate Professor or Professor Level to serve as Division Chief for
Pediatric Critical Care. The Division Chief will oversee clinical service,
patient care, research and scholarship, education and mentorship. The growth and development of faculty within
the division is a priority for the department and offers tremendous opportunity
for the new division chief. The team
takes in-house call, provides sedation services, and has a backup attending
scheduled Monday – Friday. This
innovative, academic leader will have program oversight responsibility for the
Pediatric Critical Care Division, including pediatric/neonatal ECMO and the
Pediatric Sedation Services, which include pediatric intensivists and pediatric
hospitalists. They will also oversee and participate in ongoing research in the
unit.
The
position includes patient care responsibilities in a state of the art, 20 bed
multi-disciplinary Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, which averages 1000
admissions per year. UNM is the state’s
level 1 trauma center, and is the main referral center for the entire state and
surrounding areas. The program includes a full complement of pediatric medical
and surgical subspecialties including pediatric surgery, pediatric
neurosurgery, pediatric ENT, pediatric urology, pediatric orthopedic surgery and
pediatric anesthesiology. Clinical services include pediatric sedation service
(inpatient and outpatient), and the pediatric/neonatal ECMO program.
UNM
serves a diverse patient population and is the only Level 1 Trauma center for
the State. The Department of Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Division
have a long tradition of providing outstanding, comprehensive care to the
children of New Mexico. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at the
University of New Mexico School of Medicine trains 60 pediatric residents. Pediatric fellowships at the institution
include pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric hospitalist, pediatric child
abuse and neonatology. UNM is a member
of the NIH CTSA Consortium, and is a leader in biomedical research for the
state.

totaling 2.1 million. Albuquerque is a
four-season city one mile in elevation with year-round sun and moderate
climate. Centrally located, it offers access to a variety of unique outdoor,

art, food and history is nearby. The
area offers outstanding four seasons recreational activities including biking,
skiing, golf, boating, camping and water sports. The University of New Mexico
offers a variety of athletic and performing arts activities.
