The New Mexico Sentencing Commission (NMSC), which is part of the Institute for Social Research at the University of New Mexico, is looking for qualified applicants for a Research Scientist II position. About NMSC:
NMSC serves as a criminal and juvenile justice policy resource to the three branches of state government and interested citizens. Its mission is to provide impartial information, analysis, recommendations, and assistance from a coordinated cross- agency perspective with an emphasis on maintaining public safety and making the best use of our criminal and juvenile justice resources. Staff perform applied research, program evaluation, and analyses that provide information for criminal and juvenile justice stakeholders. Job duties: With direction from senior staff, the Research Scientist II position may participate in: On-site data collection at various criminal and juvenile justice and/or community agencies Secondary data analysis Cleaning of electronic datasets Combining information from multiple data sets Statistical data analysis Writing and formatting of reports Conducting literature reviews Lead and guide undergraduate student employees Completing other project tasks as needed

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
The successful candidate will have: Experience with statistical software packages such as SPSS Prior experience or interest in learning Structure Query Language (SQL) Excellent writing skills Social science background People who are successful in this position are able to work independently, are self-motivated, detail oriented, responsible, and have good critical thinking skills.
