Position Summary

Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is a comprehensive health service available to all currently enrolled UNM students. SHAC is located North of Johnson Center and across from the Student Union Building. It is open Monday through Friday and is closed on all UNM holidays. Services include medical appointments (scheduled and same day), pharmacy, women's and men's health, allergy and immunization, medical specialty clinics, physical therapy, lab and x-ray, travel health clinic and counseling services, as well as health education, prevention, and promotion.

The University of New Mexico Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is seeking applicants for a Medical Assistant.

Under general supervision, the Medical Assistant performs a wide variety of medical and clinical support functions in an outpatient clinical setting, such as: providing initial patient triage, registration, administrative services, assists with direct patient care, and performs specialized medical procedures of a routine nature as determined by established clinical protocols.

Conditions of Employment
  • CPR Certified.
  • May be required to submit immunization records for review for required vaccines and TB testing.
  • UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
  • A pre-employment background investigation may be required.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; Medical Assistant certificate or currently enrolled in a medical, nursing or pharmacy program or at least 1 year of experience in a medical field.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Medical Assistant Certification Preferred
  • 1-2 Years Experience as an MA Preferred
