Position Grade 10
Position Summary

Manages and coordinates the UNM Biology plant growth facilities and assists with the day-to-day activities of the Biology Lab classes. Grows and maintains plant material used in multiple undergraduate and graduate courses every semester. Assists undergraduate and graduate students in implementing their projects. Trains users on safety and proper techniques; monitors and maintains greenhouse conditions.
Controls greenhouse pests using pesticides and biological control agents; keeps UNM compliant with local, State and Federal pesticide management regulations and practices. Oversees the procurement and management of facilities, equipment, and supplies. Participates in the development of and implements and coordinates new demonstrations. This includes overseeing the management and operation of equipment, and supplies. The position will entail making and stocking biological chemicals and solutions, maintaining live cultures, helping in the development and implementation of new labs and demonstrations.  Prepping and tearing down laboratory exercises for multiple lab sections. Maintains records and computerized database of inventory. 
Will be trained to act as a substitute instructor for key undergraduate lab classes in case of instructor illness or emergency.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or Horticulture.
  • Ability to multi-task in several large plant greenhouse environments.
  • Ability to interact with the public in a public setting such as the public atrium in Biology.
  • Experience in scheduling usage of the public and educational areas of the
    facilities.
Additional Requirements Pesticide control license must be earned within 6 months of hire.
