As we continue to expand and enhance our facilities, we are looking for a seasoned HVAC professional to lead our efforts in maintaining and improving our commercial-grade HVAC systems.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Lead Troubleshooting & Repairs: Take charge of diagnosing and repairing complex commercial HVAC systems, including multi-zone systems with pneumatic, digital, and programmable logic controls.
  • Develop & Implement Plans: Create detailed HVAC modification plans, estimate job requirements, and oversee installations of components linked to our central control system.
  • Train & Mentor: Guide and support lower-level HVAC technicians, ensuring high standards in troubleshooting, repair, and system maintenance.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Design and implement preventive maintenance checklists for new equipment, enhancing system reliability and longevity.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Analyze as-built blueprints to recommend system modifications for remodel projects, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Material Research: Select and research materials for HVAC system installation, repair, and maintenance, promoting efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Safety & Compliance: Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement in workplace practices, ensuring adherence to safety procedures and environmental regulations.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Must maintain certification status.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of trades experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Possession of a current New Mexico Journeyman's refrigeration Licenses(JR) and an EPA Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification and one other current HVAC related New Mexico license .

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience: At least 6 years of hands-on experience with HVAC systems, including troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of commercial and multi-zone systems.
  • Licensing: Possess a current New Mexico Journeyman's Refrigeration License (JR), EPA Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification, and at least one other HVAC-related New Mexico license.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; higher education degrees in relevant fields are preferred and may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in preparing engineering documents, specifications, and cost estimates. Detailed knowledge of HVAC systems incorporating digital control systems linked to a multi-building Energy Management and Control System (EMCS).
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and mentor staff effectively, promoting best practices and ensuring high-quality workmanship.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong capability in reading and interpreting schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals. Ability to develop comprehensive system modification plans and preventive maintenance strategies.
  • Computer Proficiency: Skilled in using computers in a Windows-based environment and familiar with relevant software tools.
