The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine needs a highly motivated self-starter with strong analytical, organizational, and laboratory technical skills.
The Anesthesiology Pain Research Laboratories specializes in understanding and developing new treatments for chronic pain including testing the efficacy of non-opioid therapeutics and gene therapies in animal models of chronic pain including pancreatitis, orofacial inflammatory, neuropathic pain, and arthritis. The emphasis of this research is to study the role of neuronal, glial and immune cells in chronic pain and develop novel drugs for its treatment.
The ideal candidate would have experience with rodent models, human samples, protocol writing, experimental data collection, presentation and analysis (proficiency in GraphPad Prism preferred), and various neuroscience and immunological techniques such as animal behavioral testing, animal colony management, surgery, necropsies, cell culture, cryosectioning, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, fluorescent and optical microscopy, image analysis, Western blot, quantitative PCR and other molecular biology techniques.
The Anesthesiology Pain Research Laboratory also collaborates with other neuroscientists, the Brain & Behavioral Health Institute and the Center for Molecular Discovery, so experience with pharmaceutical development, brain imaging, and mammalian cell culture would be beneficial.

High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
