Position Summary

UNM’s Utility Services is currently seeking a sharp, enthusiastic, professional to join our Utilities team as the Utilities Maintenance/Mechanic Tech 1. The ideal candidate will perform preventive maintenance and repairs on utility plant equipment and systems to promote safe and efficient operation of high-pressure steam boilers, refrigeration units, potable water systems, electricity production systems, and associated equipment.

Works occasional 16-hour shifts as scheduled or otherwise required.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Must maintain certification status.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • Must have Basic First Aid and Adult CPR/AED Certificates or obtain within 3 months of date of hire.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Possession of at least one of the following New Mexico Journeyman's licenses/certifications; Plumbing (JP), Pipe Fitter (JPF), Gas (JG), Refrigeration (JR) or Plumber/Gas (JPG).

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with industrial chillers and their auxiliary equipment. 
  • Experience with industrial boilers and their auxiliary equipment.
