Under general supervision, provides basic to advanced emergency rescue and paramedical care to the ill and injured. Guides and supports EMT Intermediate and/or EMT Basic techs and/or students in the application of appropriate EMS techniques, as required. Performs direct illness/injury assessment and management, preparation for transport, transfer of information, and patient care. Typically works on an on-call basis as per schedule or as otherwise required.

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience in the field of pre-hospital EMS. Certification/Licensure: NM licensure as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)/Paramedic.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge of AFD/BCFD/AAS protocols
EVOC or National Safety council Defensive Driving Course
Completed FEMA ICS 100 or 200 on-line training
Experience as an EMT-Paramedic in an emergency medical system with greater than 2,500 calls yearly
Experience supervising lower-level EMTs.
ACLS Certification
PALS Certification
Must be able to obtain a UNM Vehicle Driver’s License upon hire.
