Position Summary

The Center for Development and Disability (CDD), established in 1990, is New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers, authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. 

CDD's Autism & Other Developmental Disabilities Division is recruiting to hire an Educational Consultant to serve school districts throughout NM. 

The successful candidate will provide consultation, technical assistance, training, and coaching in community settings including schools throughout the state for personnel involved in the education of children with autism spectrum disorder. The applicant must have grades PreK-12 special education classroom experience as well as the knowledge and the ability to select, implement and teach evidence-based practices appropriate for individuals with ASD. 

The applicant will work collaboratively with schools as part of an interdisciplinary team to determine appropriate interventions for children with challenging behaviors and/or intensive communication needs. In addition, the candidate will research, develop, and deliver professional development trainings online and in-person specific to evidence-based practices including inclusion in the general education environment.    

This position requires extensive travel throughout the state of NM with occasional overnight stays.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters in Education, Special Education, or related field.

Current NMPED Licensure 

Experience

  • implementing evidence-based practices to children with ASD in school settings including experience working with students who exhibit intensive communication needs and/or challenging behaviors;
  • providing consultation and training relative to ASD to special education teachers and paraprofessionals;
  • working in a special education classroom (k-12 Special Education or Ancillary license);
  • training and providing coaching and consultation with ancillary professionals and administrators supporting children with autism.
Additional Requirements This position requires a background check and fingerprinting. Additionally, extensive travel throughout the state with occasional overnight stays is a requirement of the position.
