Position Summary

Supervisor of Fiscal Services – Department of Surgery
The Department of Surgery at the University of New Mexico (UNM) School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Supervisor of Fiscal Services to join our team. This is a dynamic and fast-paced role, offering a comprehensive range of responsibilities and significant opportunities for career development within one of UNM’s leading clinical departments.

As the Supervisor of Fiscal Services, you will oversee the financial operations of a large, multidisciplinary department with a substantial presence across the UNM Health System. This role is essential in ensuring compliance with UNM policies and maintaining accurate financial records. You will also lead the development and management of the department’s budget, financial projections, and reporting processes, directly supporting the Chair of Surgery and the department’s leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Budgeting and Projections: Prepare and review the annual departmental budget and financial projections, interpreting and analyzing financial data and trends. Provide recommendations to department leadership to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and present monthly financial statements and reports. Collaborate with department leadership on projects and ad hoc financial requests.
  • Daily Operations Oversight: Supervise daily accounting operations, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures, while reviewing and approving financial transactions for accuracy and compliance.
  • Faculty Compensation Management: Oversee faculty compensation, including both scheduled and non-scheduled payments, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Financial Reconciliation and Purchasing: Manage monthly financial and salary reconciliations and oversee departmental purchasing activities.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate strong working relationships with faculty and staff across the department and the UNM Health System to support the department's business and operational needs.
  • Mission Support: Provide accounting support across the department's clinical, educational, research, and foundation missions. Ensure fund accounting is maintained in accordance with department and UNM standards.
  • Workflow and Compliance Management: Monitor and manage accounting workflow, ensuring all deadlines are met and compliance with regulatory and organizational standards is maintained.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree, successful completion of at least 15 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED MINIMUMS:

  1. 5-years direct supervisory experience
  2. Master’s in Healthcare, Business Administration, Accounting
  3. Advanced experience in general ledger platforms
  4. Experience in annual budget development, analysis, and presentation
  5. Financial reporting preparation, analysis, and presentation
  6. Proficient in Microsoft Office tools:Excel, Word, Access, or similar tools

WORK SAMPLE REQUIREMENT:

    i. Example of financial statements prepared by applicant and detail analysis supporting financial position that               demonstrates candidate’s knowledge
