Program Specialist

Position Summary

The University of New Mexico, College of Population Health (COPH) invites applications for a Program Specialist.  In this position, the employee will support the research team at the Center for Participatory Research (CPR), working on multiple research projects and with multiple research faculty and staff. The program specialist will plan and coordinate the development, implementation, and execution of sub-programs, special projects, and other initiatives designed to achieve the overall mission, goals, and objectives of the CPR program. The program specialist will oversee and administer all facets of the day-to-day operations of the various programs and activities related to the position. Such as complete all purchases for the research team, including participant incentives, travel purchases, supplies, and other expenditures. This responsibility includes working with the accounting department and purchasing department within the University, adhering to the department’s protocols and processes, and managing and reconciling P-card transactions. They will work within these procedures to set up purchase orders to provide reimbursement, honoraria, and stipends for non-employees. The program specialist will also take on the role of planning travel for employees and non-employees. Coordinating events is expected as well, which includes developing budgets, organizing and planning the event space, set up, and catering, and working with multiple vendors and various attendees. Other typical responsibilities include attending research meetings and taking verbatim notes, making edits to the CPR website, providing technical guidance for research meetings or events, organizing meetings, provide day-to-day problem solving as necessary, and other miscellaneous support tasks as needed. The person in is role must work independently and with a team; able to adapt to change, able to organize and plan multiple events; able to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments; well-versed in basic technology including Zoom, Google suite, and Microsoft suite and willingness to learn new computer programs (Miro, WordPress, Chrome River, Cascade, etc.); has strong verbal and written communication skills; is detailed oriented and ability to problem solve; and has an interest in community-engaged research and health equity.

The COPH at the University of New Mexico’s Health Sciences Center, serves New Mexico’s communities, government and non-profit agencies, businesses and health–related organizations. The COPH houses three education programs: the Bachelor of Science in Population Health (BSPH), the Master of Public Health (MPH), and the newly formed cooperative PhD with New Mexico State University which is titled “Health Equity Sciences.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

● Program planning, development, implementation, and leadership skills.
● Experience working with settings and community partners throughout New Mexico, including agency and school staff, youth, tribal partners, rural community members
● P-card purchasing with multiple faculty, including participant incentives/merchant cards, travel purchases for employees and non-employees, supplies, and other research expenditures.
● Coordinating events, planning space, set up, catering, and working with multiple vendors.
● Technical assistance and coordination at research meetings, providing agendas and taking verbatim notes, and other miscellaneous research support tasks as needed.
● Basic website experience.
