Position Summary

The Department of Neurosurgery is seeking an organized, detail-oriented individual who can work effectively and independently in a multi-task environment. This individual will oversee all funding and fiduciary responsibilities for the entire department which includes 13 faculty attendings, 4 residents, 16 staff, and an APP division consisting of UNMH and UNMMG APPs.  

Key Responsibilities Include:  

  • Oversight and management of all sources of funding and financial activities for the department.  
  • Responsible for the operational budget of both restricted and unrestricted funds, including the annual budget review, budget revisions, salary planner, mid-year reviews and projections, and following year projections.  
  • Responsible for year-end close-outs for both restricted and unrestricted funds.  
  • Responsible for post-award oversight and grant award management.  
  • Initiates and tracks all non-standard payments.  
  • Works with department leadership on FIBCI contracts for faculty members.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s in Accounting 
  • UNM Accounting experience 
  • The ability to analyze and interpret financial data 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate financial information and compliance requirements to staff, leadership, physicians and other professionals 
  • Working knowledge of Banner (or similar system) and UNM Financial systems  
  • Proficient in MS Excel and MS Access to analyze/interpret financial data and prepare financial reports 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member 
  • The successful applicant should demonstrate knowledge of University policies/procedures, applicable local, state, and federal regulations and generally accepted accounting principles
