The Department of Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences (HESS) in the College of Education and Human Sciences (COEHS) invites applicants for its Department Administrator position which serves as the lead staff member for the department. The HESS Department houses undergraduate and graduate programs in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Community Health Education, Physical Education, Teacher Education, and Sport Administration. The department also supports the greater university community through the Physical Education Non-Professional (PHED) Program, which offers a variety of physical activity courses.
The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, forward thinking professional able to balance complex tasks and be a reliable resource for the Department Chair, faculty, and students. We seek a team-oriented professional to provide key administrative support, management, and input on strategic initiatives and departmental matters.
This position serves as the primary point of contact for the department and oversees the day-to-day activities across its units. The Department Administrator provides a wide range of support to include HR related activities for faculty, staff, and students, budget oversight, coordination of scheduling of academic courses, and management of administrative operations. This position provides direct supervision to subordinate employees including planning, assigning, and organizing work.
This position requires strong organizational and critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle confidential matters discretely. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to prioritize work and effectively oversee multiple projects and deadlines for a diverse group.

High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience managing at least one of the following functional areas: fiscal services, administration and/or human resources AND 3 years of additional experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
