The UNM Student Financial Aid Office seeks a dynamic, highly motivated individual interested in serving as a Financial Aid Officer within the One-Stop/Student Employment team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated professional to be an integral member of a progressive Student Financial Aid Office. Reporting to the Financial Aid Manager, the Financial Aid Officer works collaboratively with our University community in our One Stop Office at UNM Albuquerque’s Main Campus. One Stop is a fast-paced environment that provides in-person and virtual customer service concerning Financial Aid and Student Employment opportunities and eligibility along with enrollment functions including admissions and registration activities. The Financial Aid Officer will assist with the daily front desk operations and student employment hiring processes. The Financial Aid Officer will serve as a liaison for high school, community, and on campus outreach events. The candidate must represent the Student Financial Aid Office and the University of New Mexico with professionalism and deliver information in a positive manner while facilitating exemplary service to students. The successful candidate will have excellent oral, written, and presentation skills, a high sensitivity to cultural issues, competency for critically analyzing processes, and an understanding of the innovative uses of technology in a higher education setting (Banner experience is preferred). The candidate must also be highly organized, detail oriented, creative, energetic, able to work productively and effectively lead teams, possess a strong commitment to superior customer service, and understand the importance of financial aid in student recruitment and retention. The ideal candidate will have excellent oral and written skills and a high sensitivity to cultural issues within a higher education setting. The successful candidate must also be detail oriented, organized, creative, energetic, able to work productively independently and within a team. They must possess a strong commitment to superior customer service and understanding of the importance of financial aid in recruitment and retention. Responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following: - Provide exceptional customer service to a diverse community of students.
- Assist with supervision and training of student peer advisors that handle 1st level student inquiries.
- Provide student employment counseling and assist with hiring forms intake for new or returning student employees.
- Stay abreast of current federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies, especially as related to security of information.
- Provide current, accurate, and complete information to students and parents in person, e-mail, or virtual meetings during peak service times.
- Assist in all areas of Financial Aid, including financial literacy education at high schools, community, and on campus outreach events. Outreach may include evening and weekend programs.
- Develop financial literacy programs and workshops tailored to UNM student body
- Promote and facilitate resources for students to build long-term financial skills, including workshops, 1:1 appointments and digital media.
- Assist with scholarships and federal aid form processing during peak service times.
- Other duties as needed.
