As a nationally accredited program with strong educational component in The University of New Mexico School of Medicine, the Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI) in Albuquerque investigates any death occurring in New Mexico that is sudden, violent, untimely, unexpected or where a person is found dead and the cause of death is unknown. The OMI, which is a special program within the Department of Pathology, determines the cause and manner of death in these cases, and provides formal death certification.
OMI is seeking an Accessioning Tech to join our team. Our ideal candidate would be a team player and willing to learn. This person will have experience working with decedents, ensuring confidentiality and dignity of handling. Our ideal candidate will have strong work ethic, the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, and follow complex instruction. We need someone with a great deal of resilience and that is not triggered by odors. Work involves almost constant exposure to elements such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dust, fumes, smoke and loud noises. This person will work with blood and blood-borne pathogens requiring OSHA training. The position requires extensive physical activity such as heavy lifting, pushing or pulling objects including decedents over 300 pounds. This position also handles and documents personal belongings of decedents, ensures safety and cleanliness of restricted work areas, and maintains quality and infection control.
OMI is a 24/7 facility. Applicants could be placed in 2nd or 3rd shift. Position is unionized and schedule is determined by bid.
