Position Summary

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center is seeking an experienced clinician in Genetics/Dysmorphology at the Associate Professor or Professor Level to serve as Division Chief for Genetics/Dysmorphology. The candidate will be involved with clinical care, medical education, mentoring of junior faculty and division administration. There are excellent opportunities for research.  Clinics are held in Albuquerque and throughout New Mexico. The Division currently consists of two full-time clinical geneticists, two Genetic Counselors, a Metabolic Dietician, an RN coordinator and an Advanced Practice Provider. 

UNM serves a diverse patient population and is the only Level 1 Trauma center for the State. The Department of Pediatrics and Genetics/Dysmorphology Division have a long tradition of providing outstanding, comprehensive care to the children of New Mexico. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine trains 60 pediatric residents.  Pediatric fellowships at the institution include pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric hospitalist, pediatric child abuse and neonatology.  UNM is a member of the NIH CTSA Consortium, and is a leader in biomedical research for the state.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Able to obtain medical licensure(s) in the state of New Mexico.
  • Board certified in the broad specialty of Clinical Genetics, and/or board certified in either Medical Biochemical Genetics (a subspecialty) or Clinical Biochemical Genetics (a specialty).
  • At least 5 years of teaching and clinical experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in advising research projects and theses.
  • Experience in grant writing and obtaining research funding.
  • Record of scholarly activity.
  • 2 years of administrative experience including management of budgets.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
