Position Summary


The Department of Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine at The University of New Mexico (UNM) School of Medicine in Albuquerque is seeking an instructor for Medical Spanish. This will be a recruitment for Summer 2025 semester.

This course will provide a foundation of Spanish for the healthcare professional specializing in anesthesia.  Through grammar structure, relevant vocabulary, and cultural knowledge students will learn and utilize language to facilitate their daily interactions with Spanish-speaking patients.  Successful applicants will support the mission of The University of New Mexico, Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, and the Master of Science in Anesthesia program by:

  • Teaching the synchronous Master’s level lectures for ANES 521 Medical Spanish
  • Learn and apply emerging technologies and a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of the student population and the standards of the discipline.
  • Developing clear syllabi and effective course materials.
  • Evaluating student mastery of skills and competencies required by course learning outcomes.
  • Participating in discipline, department, and school meetings and activities.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with students, faculty, and staff of diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  •  Teaching scheduled in-person and/or virtual classes during weekday hours.  Maintain formal office hours.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher from an accredited academic institution in relevant degree discipline.
  • Medical professional degree (MD, DVM, DO or another pertinent post-baccalaureate degree will also be considered).
  •  One year of experience teaching at the college level.
