Position Summary
The University of New Mexico, School of Medicine, Neurology Department seeks a Cognitive Neurologist to join our Memory and Aging team in an Open Rank, Open Track position and who is dedicated to the clinical care of persons with cognitive disorders to build a robust clinical practice.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary group of Neurology faculty within the Neurology Department, UNM’s Center for Memory and Aging (CMA) and the New Mexico Alzhiemer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC).

This position offers opportunities to engage in clinical trials, community outreach, and/or dementia science within the CMA and ADRC.  New Mexico has a large rural population of medically underserved Hispanics and American Indians and the newly funded ADRC has a commitment to provide dementia services for this population.

Academic responsibilities include participation in the teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows and research activities of the department.

The successful candidate is expected to have excellent communications skills and the ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams.

UNM Hospital is the tertiary care center for the State of NM and contains the only Primary Advanced Stroke Center, dedicated Neuroscience Critical Care Unit, Comprehensive Movement Disorder Center, NAEC level 4 Epilepsy Center, and ALS / MDA Center in the state.  The Department of Neurology has 30 plus full-time and part-time attending physicians, 4 basic science researchers, and is home to well-established Residency and multiple Fellowship programs.  UNM is a mission-driven institution that provides access to high quality, comprehensive and specialty care to people across the state of New Mexico.

About Albuquerque, New Mexico:
Albuquerque, NM is a beautiful city with Sandia Mountains to the east and mesa to the west.  At more than a mile-high elevation, this high desert environment provides beautiful sunny days but also the variety of all four seasons.  It is ideal for outdoor activities and sports all year-round including running, hiking, biking and skiing.  Albuquerque is 1 hour from Santa Fe, NM and 2.5 hours from Taos, NM, both world famous for their art and culture.  The State of New Mexico is multicultural and diverse with 19 indigenous native pueblos, Navajo reservation and three Apache tribal lands.  We have excellent local cuisine, breathtaking sunsets, numerous cultural and historic sites, lakes, rivers, deserts and mountains.
Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD degree or equivalent
  • Board eligible or certified in Neurology
  • Experience and training in neurological disease in older adults, especially dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders (ADRDs)
  •  Eligible to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of clinical experience in neurological care
  • Fellowship training in cognitive disorders
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
