Police Lieutenant

Working Title Police Lieutenant
Position Grade 13
Position Summary Plans, organizes, oversees, and coordinates the daily activities of a designated operational entity of the Police Department. Manages supervisory personnel and police officers who provide personal, real property, and equipment security throughout campus, ensuring consistent and equitable enforcement of local, state, and federal laws and university regulations. Reviews and approves reports on incident and crime investigations.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Must maintain certification status.
Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited law enforcement academy; at least 3 years of supervisory experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure State of New Mexico Certified Law Enforcement Officer, or eligibility for Certification by waiver.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  •          Implementation of Training or Experience in Training Law enforcement Personnel
  •          Major Event Planning and Logistic Experience
  •         Tactical and /or Critical Incident Management Experience
  •          Lieutenant or above Experience
