Position Summary

The School of Public Administration (SPA) at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a half-time (50% FTE), 9-month appointment at the rank of Professor of Practice to begin August 1, 2025. The School of Public Administration (SPA) seeks candidates who can teach courses in two or more of the following areas: nonprofit management, intergovernmental relations, tribal administration, and public service leadership. In addition, the successful candidate will lead the required MPA and Minor in Public Service practicums, and support the Performance Academy, a budding executive level program for senior level government employees. All Professor of Practice instructors are reviewed annually.  Workload is determined by the School of Public Administration (SPA) Director and University policies. The typical teaching load of a .50 FTE is 3 courses a year.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MPA or related degree by date of application
  • A distinguished and impactful record of accomplishments in senior positions in public administration or nonprofit management at the state, local, or national level.
  • A reputation for excellence and leadership in public service.
  • Commitment to contribute to advancing the mission and vision of the School of Public Administration and the University of New Mexico.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, administrators, and stakeholders
  • A demonstrated ability to teach in the areas of nonprofit management, nonprofit financing, intergovernmental relations, and tribal administration.
  • Strong connections to New Mexico’s government and nonprofit organizations.
  • A demonstrated ability to provide effective, practice-oriented instruction in areas that supplement the core pedagogical instruction of the School
  • Ability to mentor diverse students at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels
  • Ability to contribute to other core areas in the School, including developing executive-level education
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
