The Department of Surgery at the University of New Mexico (UNM) School of Medicine is committed to excellence in education, research, and patient care. The Department of Surgery at the UNM School of Medicine is seeking a detail oriented and professional Accountant II who brings strong accounting experience, effective communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. This is a great opportunity for a motivated self starter with strong problem-solving abilities and a commitment to fiscal accountability. The Accountant II will play a key role in a variety of financial operations. Primary responsibilities in assisting budget entry, monitoring, and monthly reconciliation of indexes, as well as preparing and updating financial statements, projection reports, and other financial documents. This role will also process a range of financial transactions such as PCard reconciliations and approvals, reimbursements, requisitions, journal vouchers, labor redistributions, and coordinating billings. The position supports the department by creating new indexes and contributing to the annual budget process.
This position provides guidance to faculty and staff on accounting procedures and ensures compliance with UNM policies and fiscal standards. The successful candidate will also review expenditures for compliance with institutional and sponsor requirements across unrestricted accounts and sponsored projects.
Position is in office to start but will transition to hybrid with some required days in office.

Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
