Position Summary

The Utilities Department manages and oversees utility services for over 216 buildings and 8,800,000 square feet of building space. This position oversees the IT network that supplies the control and monitoring of utilities to these buildings and spaces.

Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Maintain Utility Services IT controls and network for the campus utilities systems
  • Analyze and evaluate computer network design, operating systems, and business requirements for the department, consult with personnel from various Utility divisions and other UNM departments to identify areas for strategic improvements and upgrades.
  • Serve as the administrator for large and highly complex databases; research and identify database environment requirements and specifications; determine integration requirements to ensure inter-operability across multiple systems, technologies, and networks.
  • Oversee the integrity and security of the Utilities Department networks and all related components, including the human element, physical and virtual servers, domain controllers, desktops, laptops, printers, and other devices.
  • Provide recommendations for improving hardware and/or software to accomplish business goals; recommend and/or implement operating system adjustments to maximize application performance and resource resolution.
  • Serve as a technical expert within area of assignment, providing guidance and direction to other staff and resolving complex problems; participate in developing strategic plans for systems/applications development and modification within area of expertise.
  • Lead and direct the work of subordinate staff within the department.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and other documents.
  • Participate on committees and task forces.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, and training sessions.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of progressively responsible experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.

  • Experience in IT infrastructure management, preferably within an academic and/or utilities setting.
  • Proficiency in managing Apple and Windows devices.
  • Strong understanding of Active Directory, group management, and printer management.
  • Experience with SQL Server and other utilities software, including vendor interactions.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to support a diverse user base.
  • Knowledge of mobile communications and device support.
  • Familiarity with conference room AV technology.
  • Knowledge of remote support tools such as Bomgar.
