Position Summary

The UNM Press seeks to hire a Sr. Acquisitions Editor to be a part of a well-known and respected publisher in the fields of anthropology, archaeology, indigenous studies, Latin American studies, American studies, Chicana/o studies, art, architecture, and the history, literature, ecology, and cultures of the American West.  The Sr. Acquisitions Editor will solicit, evaluate, and secure book-length manuscripts from authors, and perform all editorial activities with respect to manuscripts acquired, ensuring that all published work meets established standards for appearance and content. Manuscripts may be in a highly technical, scientific, or specialized field of endeavor. He/she will participate in long-range list planning and development.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 4 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of Acquisitions experience in a university press or trade publishing environment
  • Proven ability to recruit and maintain networks of authors, peer reviewers, advisors, series editors
  • Experience acquiring in one or more of the following disciplines: Anthropology/Archaeology; Latin American Studies; Native American Studies; US History
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
  • Ability to develop and implement accurate title budgets and sales forecasts.
  • Experience managing the peer-review process.
