Position Summary

The UNM - Valencia Campus is seeking a Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Instructor. This will be a continuous recruitment beginning in the Fall 2020 semester.  Candidates will be selected as needed per semester.  Instructor will prepare and teach the EMS Academy prescribed content in an assigned course as the "Instructor Coordinator" (primary instructor) for a class or student cohort. These primary instructors are responsible for course preparation, grading, student mentoring, supervising proctors, distance education, simulation, and all manner of education for the assigned course, performed in compliance with EMSA and UNM requirements and standards.

Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural Valencia county, the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year branch campus of the University of New Mexico which functions as a community college in the region and is designated a Hispanic Serving Institution.  With an emphasis on teaching excellence, Valencia Campus offers academic transfer programs, technical vocational programs, Adult Basic Education, and Dual Credit High School/College courses to Valencia and Socorro Counties.  The faculty and staff serve a student body of over 2,000 credit students per semester.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current NM EMS License at or above the level of initial licensure course being taught as approved by the UNM EMS Academy
  • Current state approved UNM EMS Academy affiliated Instructor Coordinator or have completed the Instructor Coordinator course including internship and have the ability to become a UNM EMS Academy affiliated by point of hire. 
  • Two (2) years of relevant teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree or Higher
  • Three (3) or more years of EMS instructional experience with initial licensure courses
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and
    student success, as well as working with broadly diverse populations.
