Position Summary

The Department of Internal Medicine is seeking a qualified Accountant 2 .  Internal Medicine is one of the largest departments within the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, representing an annual unrestricted budget of $55M and a restricted portfolio of $50M.  The Department is comprised of 13 clinical divisions, 3 research focused divisions, 4 offices and over 350 faculty and staff.  The current Accounting team is comprised of 5 people who all work remotely. UNM offers wonderful benefits, including generous Annual and Sick leave.  Eligible exempt employees accrue up to 14 hours per month of Annual leave and up to 8 hours per month of Sick leave. In addition, the Department is completely closed for 8-10 straight days for winter break.   For this position,  the successful candidate will use their strong Excel skills working with the Accounting Supervisor to build budgets, develop financial statements and create analyses.  Attention to detail and strong fundamental accounting skills are a must. The qualified candidate will be responsible for managing unrestricted funds to include building budgets, monitoring and monthly reconciliation of indexes, preparing and updating monthly financial statements and projection reports.  As well as processing financial transactions such as labor redistribution, journal vouchers and requisitions. 

The successful candidate will be knowledgeable in the following areas:
 - Budget Development and financial reporting
 - Creating reports and analyses for leadership
 - Effectively communicating and presenting financial data to a diverse non financial audience
 - Banner Finance/Budget/Salary Planner or similar operating ledger/financial systems
 - Analyzing and interpreting financial operations
 - Oversight of unrestricted and foundation accounts
 - University policy and procedure

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting
  • General Ledger/Banner Experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, most specifically with Excel 
  • 3+ years Accounting Experience 
  • Financial Reporting and variance analysis
  • Ability to think Analytically and critically and problem solve
