Position SummaryThe Division of Physical Therapy in the Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation at the University of New Mexico has a temporary part-time faculty position available with responsibilities in two courses: i) PT613 Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy I [Spring 2023], and ii) PT610 Acute Care [Summer 2023]. This position will assist the primary course instructor for both courses.

PT613 serves as the initial cardiopulmonary-oriented course delivered in the 1st year curriculum. The primary focus is to educate students on foundational cardiopulmonary knowledge and examination techniques necessary for the entry-level therapist. The course covers both didactic and hands-on material, and is slated to begin on March 20, 2023 and ends May 12, 2023. The course meets 5 hours per week:
Mondays, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Thursdays, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM

PT610 serves as a dedicated course focused on the acute care setting. This course is delivered in the 2nd year curriculum, immediately prior to students entering their main clinical rotations. The course content focuses across a variety of patient populations (i.e., neuro-, ortho-, cardiac-, pulmonary-, ICU-populations) and strongly emphasizes students’ hands-on skills in case-based scenarios. The course begins June 12, 2023 and ends August 4, 2023. The course meets 8 hours per week:
Tuesdays, 1PM to 5PM
Thursdays, 1PM to 5PM

The scheduling requirements for this position are listed above; however, some flexibility may be required to accommodate testing schedules. The total compensation for this position is: $6,000.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years’ experience as a physical therapist;
  • 2 or more years' experience in an acute care facility
  • Current, active New Mexico Physical Therapy license
  • Masters in Physical Therapy

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4 or more years' experience in an acute care environment
  • 1 or more years’ experience working in a dedicated cardiopulmonary environment (i.e., cardiac rehab, cardiothoracic surgery unit, pulmonary unit)
  • 1 or more years’ experience working in an intensive care unit
    Advanced degree (i.e., DPT, (t)DPT, PhD)
  • Served as the primary clinical instructor to at least 1 full-time student
  • Evidence of continuing education in cardiopulmonary assessment (i.e., American Board of Physical Therapy Specialty Certification, continuing education courses attended, Combined Section Meeting Programs, New Mexico Physical Therapy Association Programs)
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
