Position Summary |
The School of
Medicine Research Education Office (SOMREO) is focused on providing
comprehensive training in both clinical sciences and basic biomedical science disciplines.
SOMREO is comprised of programs that provide students with an integrated and
cohesive training experience in Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program (BSGP),
Initiative for maximizing Student Development (IMSD T32 Grant), MD/PhD Dual
Degree Program, Master’s in Clinical Research (MSCR), PostDoc Affairs (PDA),
and Undergraduate Pipeline Network (UPN), allowing students to participate in
activities common to their programs while obtaining their degrees. SOMREO is
seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, goal-driven professional to join our team
as a Program Specialist. The Program Specialist will provide lead support to
assigned programs and work directly with program directors, to ensure the
success of SOMREO students. In addition, they will work closely with SOMREO
staff and leadership to support, in various ways, all SOMREO programs and
funding opportunities. In order to excel in this position, the selected
candidate will be self-motivated and poses strong attention to detail and
organizational skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and excellent communication
skills, both written and verbal. They should demonstrate previous project
management experience, following-up on tasks, and communicating with all levels
of faculty/staff and leadership.

- Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
- If located at the UNM Children's Campus, successful candidate must pass a comprehensive post-offer, pre-employment criminal and New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) fingerprint background check, and a continued successful status will be verified by periodic future background checks.

Minimum Qualifications |
High school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. |
Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience working with UNM HSC Enrollment Management, UNM graduate student processes and systems, terminal degree programs (PhD, MD, and MD/PhD), and undergraduate student professional development programs.
- Experience in higher education student services and advisement including monitoring student progress and compliance with program requirements as well as assisting with non-academic matters and referrals to appropriate on- and off-campus resources.
- Planning and participating in recruitment activities, admissions process, and program orientation in collaboration with faculty committees and other University offices.
- Assisting students to be in compliance with progress and graduation requirements, assisting at HSC Convocations, scheduling courses and dissertations, monitoring and assisting faculty with catalog updates, facilitating communication between HSC and central campus graduate student offices (Registrar, OGS, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively, both as a team member and as leader.
- Experience in project management to include event planning for small to large (100+) groups, developing schedules/agendas, designing student activities, catering, and making room reservations, travel arrangements and electronic travel reimbursements.
- Building processes for tracking applicants, current students, and alumni to enable required reporting for UNM, HSC, and external grant agencies.
- Experience with administrative, and program support activities providing direct high-level administrative support with a strong attention to detail.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
