As a nationally accredited program with strong educational component in The University of New Mexico School of Medicine, the Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI) investigates any death occurring across the state of New Mexico that is sudden, violent, untimely, unexpected or where a person is found dead and the cause of death is unknown. The OMI, which is a special program within the Department of Pathology, determines the cause and manner of death in these cases, and provides formal death certification.
OMI is currently looking for an Anthropology Research Tech 3 for the Anthropology division. Our ideal candidate will be a team player and willing to learn. This person must be able to work with decedents in a lab setting and follow protocols for sanitation, infection control, and safety. The candidate will be assisting anthropologists with collection of de-fleshing and examination of bones. Our ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic and be able to follow complex instruction. High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Advanced working knowledge of complex research techniques, instrumentation, and/or equipment.
Ability to use scientific research software to analyze data and prepare statistical summaries and reports.
Basic knowledge and understanding of scientific research methodology.
Ability to develop, adapt, or modify research and/or data analysis protocol.
Knowledge of the use and maintenance of laboratory facilities and/or equipment.
Organizing and coordinating skills.
