Position Summary

Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is looking for the perfect person to complete our team as an Accountant 2.  We have a team environment and work hard to support one another.  Good things are happening in this department. 

Here are the specifics of the job:

The ideal candidate will be a team player. This really is important to us. Tenacity and problem solving skills are a huge asset.  ECE is a fast paced, high volume office. This position involves a high degree of interaction with faculty, staff, and students at all levels.  As a result the ability to organize, prioritize, and multi-task is invaluable. Our perfect person will be involved with all areas of the financial workings of the ECE Department.
Critically, this position will maintain the department shadow system, reconcile it monthly and provide faculty the ability to monitor balances. The Accountant 2 will also be responsible for all other departmental accounting necessities like budget planning, monthly budget reporting to the Chair and the Department
Administrator, monthly updating of all restricted index codes etc. This position will be responsible for all financial transactions. A successful applicant should have the knowledge of and the ability to interpret UNM policies and procedures to faculty and staff.

Ideally, the new accountant 2 will supervise one experienced Fiscal Tech and partially a Grants Coordinator. Both staff will work closely together with and under the guidance of the accountant 2.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • BS in Accounting or Finance
  • Experience with Banner Systems budgets
  • Experience with Banner System JV, Labor Distribution, etc
  • Experience with research accounting within Banner
  • Experience to maintain a shadow accounting system
  • CPA/CMA certifications
  • MBA in Accounting
  • Experience in Excel
