Research Scientist 2

Position Summary

The Research Scientist 2 position involves conducting laboratory-based research using diverse fish tissue samples collected from vaccination and pathogen challenge trials. Responsibilities include processing and analyzing biological samples, performing RNA extraction and gene expression analysis using quantitative PCR (qPCR), and preparing tissue sections for histological evaluation. The role also involves conducting immunohistochemistry to identify and localize specific cellular or molecular markers, followed by microscopy and image analysis to evaluate tissue responses.
The scientist will contribute to experimental design, data collection and interpretation, maintenance of accurate laboratory records, and communication of research findings through reports, presentations, and collaboration with multidisciplinary research teams.

Conditions of Employment
  • Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Additional health screenings may be required, dependent on the nature of the research conducted, as determined by Employee Occupational Health Services.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

- Previous experience in cell and molecular biology techniques such as RNA extraction, RNA quality ad quantity measurement, qPCR
- Previous histology and microscopy experience
- Excellent lab organization skills to work in a team with 7 other scientists.
