|Position Summary||Position Summary: Graduate Studies invites applications for a 0.5 FTE position as Associate Dean of Graduate Studies. The appointment begins 1 January 2019 and is a 12 month appointment.|
The successful candidate will serve on designated University committees involving Graduate Studies; review grant applications for selected Graduate Studies small grant programs; participate in Academic Program Review activities for academic programs affiliated with Graduate Studies; assist the Director of Water Resources with program assessment; act as Graduate Studies liaison to the Dean of Students; represent Graduate Studies on relevant faculty and student policy matters and policy committees; collaborate with the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning on the Graduate Teaching Academy; assist in developing and writing grant applications involving graduate student funding opportunities; assist with graduate student grievance and/or disciplinary complaints; develop new initiatives to enhance the success of graduate and professional students; serve as acting Graduate Dean in the absence of the Dean; and assist the Graduate Dean as needed.
Graduate Studies is the central graduate academic administrative unit at the University of New Mexico. Graduate Studies works in partnership with administrative and academic departments across campus to
promote the quality of our graduate programs, enhance the success of our students, attract well qualified applicants, and ensure broad access to graduate education. Graduate Studies provides a variety of student support services, financial support for graduate students, and program support for the graduate programs across campus.
Minimum Qualifications: The minimum qualifications must be consistent with Higher Learning Commission standards and compliant with the faculty hiring guidelines.
- Tenured Associate Professor
- Two or more years of administrative experience at the departmental or college level.
- Tenured Full Professor
- Knowledge of the Faculty Handbook and Administrative Policies Manual including policies
relevant to graduate student education.
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and graduate student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
- A strong record of research/scholarship and familiarity with sponsored research.
- Strong record of involvement with graduate student mentoring and teaching.
