Student employment enables you to apply coursework and classroom experiences to your job, aiding in academic, professional, and personal growth. Utilize your existing skills and develop new abilities in a professional setting, gaining necessary experience for your future.
Shape your understanding of a professional environment, including positive workplace behaviors. Gain exposure to the diverse functions and career opportunities at UNM, and learn about the interchange between public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
Building relationships with professional colleagues and supervisors and expands your understanding of professionalism and how you approach work. Student employment helps you practice financial literacy and management, allowing you to offset the cost of higher education through learning and earning.
Freshmen
You may be encouraged to “take it easy” your first year at college in order to navigate your new campus environment. Student employment can actually help you with the transition to college life. When you work on campus, you are surrounded by staff and other students who will help and support you.
Upperclassmen
As you get closer and closer to graduation, working on campus will help arm you with the tools you need to embark on your career. Learn from professionals in your areas of interest, gain valuable skills, and make connections that can translate into future job opportunities.
Mandatory Training for Student Employees
All Student Employees (including work study) are required to complete the UNM Mandatory Training before new or continuation paperwork can be processed for them. The online training is available here.
